- Project Description:
7th grade middle school students will be comparing internal and external vertebrate anatomy. Ideally they will be dissecting frogs and crayfish and observing the growth and development of living frog and crayfish in the classroom. Final projects will involve student-created videos, test and "how to" guides.
This project will last for a total of 2.5 weeks in April. The timeline involves first learning vertebrate classification, practicing dissection techniques on clementines and chicken wings, and then working in pairs on the rats and frogs.
If the project must be scaled down, students will work with frogs but not crayfish.
My students would definitely appreciate donations of materials (specimens and dissection materials) and the mentorship of either medical researchers/professionals or biological scientists/professors/grad students.
This project is listed under DonorsChoose.org. Thank you!
